I Was Blind But Now I See

John 9:13-34

1. Good things can come from a crisis.

  • The religious leaders have determined that anyone who acknowledges Jesus as the Christ will be put out of the Synagogue. John 9:22
  • The religious leaders did not like it that Jesus healed this man; but worse, Jesus flouted their laws by healing him on the Sabbath. John 9:14
  • The religious leaders desired to use this man in their quest to destroy Jesus.

2. A man’s eyes are opened!

  • The blind man slowly came to an understanding about who Jesus was. First he called Jesus a man. John 9:11
  • Later when asked further he proclaims that Jesus is a prophet. John 9:17
  • After this, when asked to denounce Jesus he stayed with what he knew, “I was blind now I see!” John 9:25
  • Finally in exasperation when the religious leaders will not leave him alone he proclaims that Jesus must come from God to do what He has done. John 9:33

3. By honoring Jesus, the man lost much.

  • The religious leaders threw him out of the Synagogue. 9:34
  • To be cast out of the Synagogue meant that he would be no less an outcast in his society, than he was being blind.
  • This man suffers for doing the right thing, in honoring Jesus.
