Called and Commissioned
December 28th, 2008Matthew 28:16-20
Matthew 12-28-08
1. We are called to follow the last order we receive.
- The eleven followed Jesus last order, some in faith some in doubt. Matthew 28:16-17
- Jesus drew near to those who doubted as well as to those full of faith, all were given work to do.
- Remember the man who brought his son to Jesus asking if there was anything that He could do for him, and Jesus reply was “If I can?” Everything is possible for him who believes.” To which the man responded “I do believe, help me overcome my unbelief”. Mark 9:22-24
2. All authority in heaven and on earth belongs to Jesus!
- Being an effective Christian is not about our competency, but about the competency of the Christ who is with us. Vs 20
- Many of us beat ourselves up about our inadequacies to the point of paralysis.
- Did you notice the promise that Jesus will be with us? Vs 20
- To have a growing awareness that the one who holds all authority not only on earth but in heaven is with us should bring us a growing freedom and peace.
- The world has been transformed not by the power of the disciples, but by that of Jesus.
3. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations.
- Freedom comes when we realize that it is about the adequacy of Jesus Christ and not about our own ability.
- We have freedom to make disciples as we glimpse the glory and grandeur of God.
- We are called to:
- Make disciples. Vs 19
- Baptize in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Vs 19
- Teach people to obey Jesus commands. Vs 20
