Builders of the Wall
February 1st, 2009Nehemiah 3:1-32
The Lord said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. Genesis 11:6
1. Nehemiah has a plan in which everyone is important.
- I counted 48 groups of people involved in the building of this wall.
- Nehemiah gets the leadership visibly involved. Vs 1
- 6 of the groups built near their own homes.
- The daugher’s of Shallum are particularly pointed out Vs 12 as are the temple servants. Vs 26
2. A harbinger of things to come. Vs 5
- One group refuses to do the work of rebuilding. Vs 5
- Divided loyalties bring division. In Nehemiah 6:17-19 we find the reason for much of Nehemiah’s trouble; the nobles who refused to build are hand in glove with the enemy.
- Eight times in the book of Nehemiah Tobiah is found to be working against God’s work in Jerusalem.
3. Life lessons from Nehemiah 3:1-32
- We must be careful not to be taken in by one like Tobiah, thus harming the unity God desires for us.
- God can work even through solid planning.
- Those in leadership of our church need to take a visible lead in the building of God’s Kingdom at First Pres.
- Every one of us is important to fulfilling the call of God.
By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John13:35
