Jesus, The Promised One

April 5th, 2009

1. A triumphal arrival.

  • There was tremendous excitement and expectation surrounding the arrival of Jesus into Jerusalem at the beginning of this Passover celebration.
  • The people had seen enough to have high expectations of Jesus.
  • The crowd proclaimed Jesus the King of Israel, but they did not know what they were saying. John 12:13

2. Time can bring clarity.

  • It was only after all the events had taken place that the disciples recognized the significance of what had really happened. John 12:16
  • The words of the prophet Zechariah were fulfilled on the day that Jesus rode into Jerusalem. John 12:15 & Zechariah 9:9-10
  • Looking back at these events they make perfect sense.

3. A Miracle for the ages.

  • Consider what Jesus did for Lazarus, four days dead, yet at Jesus call he arose from the tomb! John 11:1-44
  • The raising of Lazarus from the tomb caused a sensation. John 12:18
  • This miracle forced the people and the religious leaders to choose, for or against Jesus. Have you made your decision?
