Final Greetings

July 5th, 2009

Colossians 4:7-18

1. First century e-mail.

  • Paul sent this letter to give the church at Colosse encouragement and direction.
  • He wrote to tell them that Jesus is supreme. Col 1:15-20
  • He told them that they had reason to be grateful. Col 3:17

2. First century e-mail and beyond.

  • Paul sends Tychicus so that their hearts might be encouraged. Col. 4:8
  • Tychicus will tell you all the news about me. Col 4:7
  • Some things demand a personal touch, a letter does not have the power of a personal visit.

3. Paul valued people.

  • In his final greetings Paul commends eight individuals to the people who make up the church at Colosse.
  • In describing them he uses words like: Dear brother, faithful minister, fellow prisoner, fellow worker, servant of Christ Jesus, he wrestles in prayer for you, a hard worker.
  • For Paul the people are the church, and he loved them. Can we do other?
