August 16th, 2009I Corinthians 1:10-17
1. An appeal to unity.
- It is not unusual for there to be divisions in a church. 1:11
- Paul appealed to the church to come to a place of agreement with one another. 1:10
- Paul appealed in the name of Christ. 1:10
2. The cult of personality.
- “I follow Paul”; another, “I follow Apollos”; another “I follow Cephas”; still another, “I follow Christ.” 1:12
- Jesus prayer for his disciples was; “Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name – the name you gave me – so that they may be one as we are one. John 17:12
3. Is Christ Divided? 1:13
- It is at the cross and through the cross that we can find unity.
- Paul’s preaching was anchored in the power of the cross rather than in the wisdom of men. 1:17
- Let us join together to do the work of God!
