The Foolishness of the Cross

I Corinthians 1:18 to 2:5

1. Those who are Perishing.

  • Those who are wise in their own eyes. I Cor. 1:20-21
  • Those who trust in their learning and scholarship. 1:20
  • Those who look to the miraculous. 1:22

2. Those who are called by God.

  • Recognize in the cross of Christ the power of God. 1:24
  • Recognize in the cross of Christ the wisdom of God. 1:24
  • Recognize in the preaching of Christ the truth of the cross and believe. I Cor. 1:21

3. Paul the evangelist to the gentiles.

Paul came to the Corinthians without:

  • Eloquence 2:1
  • Superior wisdom 2:1
  • The Corinthian’s for the most part were not wise, of noble birth, or influential. 1:26

Paul came to the Corinthians with:

  • Weakness 2:3
  • Fear 2:3
  • Much trembling 2:3
  • The power of God. 2:4

Tell me again why you can’t do the work of an evangelist?
