I Corinthians 7:1-40

1. Rules for marriage

  • You belong to one another; the husband to the wife and the wife to the husband. I Cor. 7:4
  • There should be mutual consent involved in the decisions concerning marriage. I Cor. 7:5
  • A husband and wife should not divorce. I Cor. 7:10-11

2. Rules Paul says are his rather than the Lord’s.

  • “If you become a Christian and your spouse is not, if they will stay with you, good”. I Cor. 7:12-14
  • Be content with your lot in life when you were called to Christ. I Cor. 7:17
  • It is all right for engaged couples to marry or to remain as they are, but if they marry they will face many troubles. I Cor. 7:25-28

3. Paul’s desire is that Christ will be the focus.

  • Paul desires that all might be single as he is, as that allows us to focus on Christ with a single mind. I Cor. 7:32-35
  • A woman (man) belonging to Christ if she marries, must marry one who belongs to the Lord. I Cor. 7:39
  • The important thing is to keep God’s commands. I Cor. 7:19
