1. A new birth

• Elizabeth bore a son when she was past the years of becoming pregnant by natural means.
• Elizabeth was restored in the eyes of her community. 1:25
• Elizabeth’s neighbors and relatives shared her joy. 1:58

2. What is in a name?

• Elizabeth insisted that her child be named John. 1:60
• Zechariah went further, he said that the child’s name was already John. 1:64
• Zechariah failed in faith when the Angel Gabriel spoke to him, but he came to know the truth of things. 1:18 & 63

3. For the Lord’s hand was with him. Luke 1:66

• John was to turn the hearts of the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous. 1:17
• He was to make ready a people prepared for the Lord. 1:17
• John was to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins because of the tender mercy of God. 1:77-78
